In 2008 we will be trying something new, and we think, important. First, we are a national company serving people who are wide-awake at 8:00 AM EST and still working hard at 5:00 PM PST. That means, as a company based in CST we need to be providing service from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Next, we have Gen Y and Gen X folks who love what they do, and when they hit their “groove” they hate to stop. Finally, we have been looking at all the “green” literature that says longer, but fewer work days is the wave of the future. Well, we hope so, because we are going to try it!
In light of our generational differences, expertise, and our efforts to “be green” we are trying a new work schedule starting January 2, 2008. On that date, we are moving to a 3-month trial for a 4-day work week. The trial day/hours will be Monday-Thursday 7:00AM-7:00PM Central Standard Time. As Interact is a nation-wide company; this will ultimately help us to better serve clients on both coasts by offering them each a full 8-hour work day of availability. We also cut down on employee travel and hopefully boost productivity according to new work trends.
In doing this we will be closed on Fridays. We know there will be times when you want to reach us on Fridays (At least until the whole world is on a 4-day week :-), so we will provide emergency contacts so if you need us on a Friday, you can reach us on a Friday.
We are only trying it for 3-months (think of it as a real-world experiment). At the end of the three months we would like you to help us by evaluating the experience. Interact will be sending out a client survey about the new toward the end of March. At that point, please take the time to give us your honest feedback. We appreciate your help, your flexibility, and the opportunity to work with you. We hope you appreciate our creativity, our willingness to think “Way outside the box”, and our looking for new ways to serve two-year colleges across the nation.
